National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS)

NSS CODE : 90214204

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme under the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunities for student youth from technical institutions, graduate, and postgraduate programs at colleges and universities across India to participate in various government-led community service activities and programs.

The primary aim of the NSS is to offer young students hands-on experience in delivering community service. Since its inception in 1969, the NSS has grown significantly, with student participation increasing from 40,000 to over 3.8 million by the end of March 2018. Students from various universities, colleges, and higher education institutions have actively volunteered in numerous community service programs.

Our college introduced the NSS in 2016 with an initial strength of 120 students. Every year, we organize various activities under this program, with enthusiastic participation from our students, NSS coordinators, and staff members, all contributing voluntarily to community service initiatives.

The NSS Badge - A Symbol of Pride in Serving the Nation

All youth volunteers who choose to serve the nation through NSS-led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility toward helping those in need.

The badge has special significance, and each element symbolizes important values that NSS stands for:

  • The Konark Wheel: The Konark Wheel on the NSS badge, with its 8 bars, symbolizes the 24 hours of the day, reminding the wearer to remain prepared for the service of the nation at all times.
  • Red Color: The red color in the badge represents the energy and spirit demonstrated by NSS volunteers.
  • Blue Color: The blue color signifies the cosmos, highlighting that the NSS is a small part of the universe, ready to contribute its share toward the welfare of humanity.
  • Motto: The motto of the National Service Scheme is "NOT ME BUT YOU," reflecting the spirit of selfless service.
